Terms of use
studentloan.help is an independent website; "we" means the people who run it. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
What the site is
StudentLoan.help is a free repayment calculator and a set of guides about federal and private student loans. It is independent and is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid or any loan servicer. We are not a lender, a loan broker, a servicer, a debt relief or debt settlement company, a financial adviser, a tax preparer or a law firm. We can't enroll you in a plan, file anything for you, see your account or change your loans. Applying for a repayment plan, consolidation, rehabilitation or PSLF is free at StudentAid.gov or through your servicer.
Information, not advice
Everything here is general information. It is not financial, tax or legal advice for your situation, and reading it or writing to us doesn't create a client, advisory or fiduciary relationship. Check important decisions with your servicer, StudentAid.gov or a qualified professional.
The calculator gives estimates
The calculator works from the numbers you type and from federal rules and figures that are dated and cited on How the calculator works and in each guide. Its results are estimates, not offers, decisions or promises. Nothing on the site guarantees that you qualify for any plan, for PSLF or for forgiveness, or that a payment or amount forgiven will match the estimate. Your servicer and the Department decide those. Refinancing figures use only an APR you enter; we don't show or quote lender rates.
Rules change
Student loan law changed substantially on July 1, 2026 and is still being litigated and implemented. We date each rule and update pages when it changes, but a page can be out of date between a change and our update. The date on a guide shows when its substance last changed.
What you send us
When you use a form, you agree that what you send is accurate and yours to send. Please don't send your FSA ID, Social Security number, loan account numbers, servicer login or other sensitive identifiers; we never need them. We reply by email with general information. How we handle what you send is in our privacy policy. We don't sell or share it.
Acceptable use
Don't use the site to break the law, to send spam or malicious code, to try to get into systems you aren't authorized to use, to overload the site, or to scrape it in a way that harms its operation. Don't use the site or its content to suggest that you, or anyone, is connected with the Department of Education or a servicer.
Our content
The text, calculator code, design and graphics on this site belong to studentloan.help. You are welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with a link back. Please ask before republishing anything more. Federal statutes, regulations and government data quoted here are public domain; our selection and presentation of them is ours.
Links to other sites
We link to government sites, regulators and other sources when they help. We don't control those sites, don't endorse the companies mentioned, and aren't paid for any link. Their own terms and privacy policies apply.
No warranties
The site and its tools are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows.
Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, studentloan.help is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content, and our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to US$100. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you in full.
Indemnity
If you misuse the site or break these terms and a claim is brought against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from that claim.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you have a complaint, send it through the contact form first (choose "Legal notice"); we will try to resolve it informally within 30 days.
If we can't, either of us may bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies. Otherwise, disputes will be resolved by individual binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, and not as a class action or class arbitration. You may opt out of this arbitration and class waiver within 30 days of first using the site by sending a "Legal notice" through the contact form that says "Arbitration opt-out"; opting out doesn't affect the rest of these terms.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and changes apply from that date forward.
